The Aquarium Society of Alberta’s Aquatic Biosphere Project is now an approved organisation on National Geographic’s Open Explorer program. Find our Aliens in Alberta Expedition and follow along as we mark a path of discovery on invasive species.
Recent news reports and photos of giant carp in local waters have made headlines in the past few months. People discarding their pet fish in local waterways, ponds and lakes have resulted in some areas being overtaken by these species. The Aquatic Biosphere’s conservation and research section have engaged with biology students from Macewan University to begin observing and charting selected water bodies to discover impact here and downstream. The students will be involved with the Biosphere’s expedition as part of a course study and to gain practical field skills.
You can follow the expedition and receive updates as they are posted by going to this link and clicking FOLLOW. If you do not yet have an account with National Geographic you will be prompted to create one first.
